Long-range ultrasonic wave flaw detection

1. Outline

This system propagates ultrasonic waves from a position where detection probe rings can be installed to check for the existence of corrosion over a wide area of piping for which visual inspection is difficult, such as buried pipes, insulated pipes, etc.

2. Device and principle
The probe is installed on the piping and an extremely low frequency wave is propagated over the entire surface of the piping. Detection and evaluation are done based on the information of reflected waves from the corroded part.
3. Features
(1) It is possible to propagate ultrasonic waves over the entire surface of the piping, even up to several tens of meters ahead.
(2) Corrosion of approximately 10% can be detected by cross-sectional defect ratio.
(3) With insulated piping, detection can be carried out by removing the insulation only on the part where the probe ring is installed.
(4) Corrosion in elbows can also be detected.
4. Target examples
(1) Insulated piping, buried piping, piping in through-holes, etc.
(2) Target piping diameter, 2-14 inches
